Workshop I

with

Dr. Monica Blum

Sunday November 10, 2024 10am-1pm

In this first workshop of the series, Dr. Blum will introduce Embodied Mirroring (EM), a relational, body-based technique, to help therapists transform “stuckness” with clients who have a history of severe or early traumaIn EM the client and therapist work through, in a unique, reciprocally influenced somatic mirroring process. EM integrates elements of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, play therapy, mindfulness, and neuroscience-based approaches and theories. EM helps shift a therapeutic impasse by evoking the therapist’s somatic countertransference to help reveal, and heal, the client’s “unthought knowns” (Bollas, 1987).

Practical and theoretical concepts will be presented. To help participants integrate EM into their practices we will do experiential role playing of child and adolescent cases.

Dr. Monica Blum is a clinical psychologist in private practice for over 30 years. She has specialized in treating complex trauma using play combined with somatic therapeutic approaches. Her newest publication,“Inviting the Spirit of Play to Transform Trauma with Clients of All Ages: A Therapist’s Guide to Healing,” will be published in 2025 by Routledge.
